Now that we are 2 weeks into the new year, time to evaluate your health and fitness progress. Are you following the roadmap you have created to a healthy lifestyle? Oh, what...you don't have a roadmap!
For many years I would write out my New Year's resolutions with basic goals such as "Get fit" and "lose weight". Ok great, I would write it on a post it note and place inside one of our kitchen cabinet doors. I was all revved up and would start out strong. I would just sort of wing it on the exercise and I would try to eat healthy. 1 month into it, I would run out of steam, get frustrated and eventually continue to blame it on my sit-down job and that I was too busy running our businesses to really follow a plan.
Then the light bulb went off. I didn't really have a plan. I wasn't really following any guidelines and I hadn't created any new healthy habits. Once I planned out my workouts, learned how to cook (which is now my favorite hobby), wrote out a weekly menu and prepped most of our meals in advance, I was armed and ready to challenge myself to live a healthy lifestyle.
It works! Now I write goals every week (health, career, family) and put measure to them. I attach a number to them so I know what to strive for. This week, for example, one of my goals is to run 3 days for 40 minutes. Make small weekly goals, which will help you reach your overall fitness goal.
It takes 21 days to create a new habit. Do whatever it takes to get to that point. After 21days it becomes such a natural part of your routine...just like brushing your teeth.
